At Parents as First Teachers we recognise that:
Parents are a child's first and most influential teachers
Our vision at Parents as First Teachers is that:
All children will learn, grow and develop to realise their full potential
We train professionals to work on a one to one basis with parents and their children, pre-birth to 5 years, using the Parents as Teachers programme delivered in the home or other appropriate setting.
A key feature of Parents as First Teachers is that it is the parent, not the project worker, who works with his or her child to achieve the benefits of the programme.
Our mission at Parents as First Teachers is to:
Provide parents with the information, support and encouragement needed to
help their child develop optimally during the crucial early years of life
Parents as First Teachers offers a successful, research and evidence based parenting programme for parents of children up to 5 years old.

The Sure Start publication 'Children's Centre Practice Guidance' (Dec 05) lists Parents as First Teachers among the small number of programmes regarded as evidence based and of sufficient quality to contribute to the support through home visiting that Children's Centres are required to provide.
Parents as First Teachers UK is an international affiliate of Parents as Teachers which was established in the USA in the 1980s. Parents as Teachers has other international affiliates in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China and Germany.
Parents as First Teachers also offers tailor made training courses on a range of issues related to working with 0-5 year olds.
